Danielle and Dan met at a pickleball open play, where a few games somehow turned into an eight-hour hangout. Apparently that still wasn't enough, because Dan tried to keep the sweatshirt Danielle had lent him as an excuse to see her again.

Then came seven months of being “best friends,” though pretty much everyone except them seemed to understand what was going on. Eventually, Danielle invited Dan to spend the holidays in Florida with her family, because that’s obviously a normal thing to do with someone who is just your friend.

By the time the trip was over, they had finally figured it out. Danielle moved into Dan's Chelsea apartment the day they got home.

Almost three years later, they live together in the West Village (Danielle's favorite place in the world) and have had plenty of adventures. They've road-tripped up the Oregon coast, hiked the West Highland Way in Scotland, traveled through Belgium with Dan’s family, and — despite Dan being the world's most difficult sleeper — camped around Red Rock Canyon and the Grand Canyon.

In July 2026, on the Emperor's Crown Trail in Austria, Dan proposed.
